Two months ago we released the Kopano communication & sharing platform, a thoroughly modern communication experience with the advanced functionality that teams need to boost productivity and enhance collaboration. Kopano is thé open source communication & sharing solution, which is easy to integrate into existing environments, and its modular architecture remains the foundation for easy scalability.

This ease of integration also includes migration from an existing communication stack, such as the Zarafa Communication Platform, Exchange and others. To help you on your way with a migration we are busy creating extensive documentation and helper scripts, on which we would like to inform you in a series of blogs. This is the first edition, which focuses on the migration from the ZCP platform.

Kopano features compared to ZCP

Kopano Core is a fork of the Zarafa Communication Platform. Therefore there are a lot of similarities, which are outlined in the following table;

MIGRATING FROM ZCP

These similarities also make migrating from ZCP an easier task than might be considered. We have therefore created a script that that will perform the migration on standard setups where all the ZCP components are installed on the same machine and the ldap- or db-plugin is used.

More information about this script can be found here: https://kb.kopano.io/display/WIKI/ZCP+to+Kopano+migration+script

If you want to migrate a more complex environment such as multiserver or other cluster, we can also help you on your way with our Quick start guide, which will give you a step by step to perform a manual migration of the servers.
You can find the Quick start guide here: https://kb.kopano.io/display/WIKI/Migration+Quick+Start-Guide+-+ZCP+to+Kopano+Core

We are also in the process of creating extensive administrator manuals available for Kopano, which will also include a lot of background information and explanations to help you understand each step in the migration process. It will in the future also contain other migrations paths, such as migrating from Exchange, IMAP-servers and other solutions – of which we will inform you in the next editions of the blog series. This manual and all others can be found on our Documentation Portal https://documentation.kopano.io
