Kopano Files boosts your productivity by allowing you to use your existing storage solutions right from the WebApp interface. You can work together on files and projects, with team members both in- and outside of your organisation. We have been working on this new version quite a while and we are pleased to announce the availability of Kopano Files 2.0 final today!

So what is in this new version?

This new version updates Files to the new look & feel of WebApp. Aside from that it also introduces quite a few new features. These are some of the highlights:

Multi-account support

You can use multiple storage system accounts simultaneously. This can be a combination of multiple corporate accounts or business accounts mixed with a personal account. Every account you add there will be available through the Files-context in WebApp and can be used with all the Files features (such as direct attachment handling).

Driver model for storage backends

One of the more technical features is the ‘driver-like’ storage backend support. Kopano Files no longer requires support for different storage types to be built-in, but can dynamically load ‘drivers’ to support different storage types and their features. The driver model supports basic functionality, but can also support advanced features like sharing.

We developed a new driver as well: SMB/CIFS backends are now supported through a driver using the PHP samba clients.

Advanced sharing capabilities

As we developed the new storage backend driver model we also created a new storage backend to improve the support for ownCloud and its sharing features. You can completely control the sharing of files and folders with coworkers and other organizations directly from the WebApp user interface.

How do I upgrade?

Version 2.0 is quite the major update. The way the Files plugin stores and uses the configuration also received a big update. The old (1.0) configuration files are not compatible with the 2.0 version and will need to be recreated.

Where do I get the packages?

The easiest way to install this update is through the repositories (check out this KB article if you want more info). Using the repositories also ensures that you get the dependencies you need (like php-smbclient), built for your linux distribution. Alternatively, you can use the portal or directly access the download server. Detailed information on tickets resolved in this release can be found in the changelog, right next to the documentation.
